Rose Thompson is a radiotherapy radiographer with over 26 years clinical experience in London and the Midlands, where she gained 2 discretionary points for her pioneering work with children undergoing radiotherapy and Black and Minority Ethnic communities. She is qualified to Superintendent Grade.

 In 2003 she joined Europe’s leading cancer information charity, Cancerbackup (now Macmillan Cancer Support). Rose was the charities first Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Cancer Information Specialist. This was a national role that contributed to a significant number of BME initiatives, including, the development and launch of ‘Cancer In Your Language’ a telephone interpreting helpline for people whose first language is not English.

 A significant number of BME led and other leading cancer charities / NHS facilities consult with Rose prior to undertaking BME cancer related work. She is increasingly invited to deliver presentations, and workshops throughout the UK, to raise BME cancer awareness in the community, and amongst health professionals.

 Rose is currently

• Advisor to a  number of BME led cancer organisations;
• A management team member for the BME charity ‘Cancer Equality’ and   
• Chair of the Nottingham African Caribbean Health Network.
